Una Vida Nueva

Dear Mom,

Just moved into my new house! Took me soo long to unpack. When Dad was carrying my 50+ lb suitcase up to my room, my host mom said, "Of course she has a lot of stuff, she's a woman." Let me introduce my family, none of whom speak English...

Claudia is my host mom. She's probably around your age and is so sweet.
Sylvia is la abuela here and constantly scolds Meme (pronounced May-May), el abuelo, for talking too fast to me. Whether or not he's actually speaking Spanish is questionable because I understand about 0% of what he's saying haha.
Gavi is Claudia's daughter who looks to be about 11 or so and her son Dani (short for Daniel) is around 7 or 8. It appears that his favorite "around the house" look is a shirt, underwear, and rainboots lol. The two are adorable.

My house is roomy. I'll send you pictures once I get a chance. It's an indoor/outdoor house! Only half of it is roofed, so if I lay in bed with my door open I have a perfect view of the sky, unobstructed by screens or windows. How awesome. Besides me, there are two other people living here. Yanina is from Germany and she's here for another three weeks and Francisco is from another part of Guatemala and he'll be here way longer than me. We're all about the same age and we get along famously. Between these two, I'll know everything about Antigua by next week.

Dad & I went out to dinner tonight and now I'm just waiting for Francisco to get out of the shower so I can use it. I swear it's almost been an hour...Tomorrow Dad and I are going with a staff member from Maximo to preview my project placement so I'll let you know how that goes!

Love,
Rach
